Important
Information About Registration & Attending Class at Nellis
Air Force Base
Civilian
students are welcome and encouraged to complete
course work at the Nellis AFB Campus. However, due to the nature
of the agreement between UNLV and the Air Force and more importantly
due to security concerns, there are restrictions that govern how
civilian students register and attend courses on the military
installation. Members of the military community are given priority
when enrolling in classes on base.
When
to Register: In order to ensure that all members of the
military community have an equal opportunity to enroll in classes,
registration is only open two weeks prior to
the start of each eight-week term. For specific dates, please
consult the Academic
Calendar or individual Class
Schedule.
How
to Register: Civilian students must register for Nellis
classes in person at the UNLV-Nellis Campus Office located on
the Air Force Base. Students must follow the steps listed below
during the registration period:
- Registration
is open to civilians at 1:30 p.m. each weekday during the registration
period only. Please plan on meeting the Nellis Coordinator at
1:30 p.m. at the Nellis AFB Visitors' Center.
- Complete
and submit the On-Line Visit Request Form to let the Nellis
staff know what day you plan on visiting the Nellis Office.
- Meet
the Program Coordinator at the Nellis Visitor's Center on the
date you indicated on the On-Line Visit Request Form. Be sure
to have your current Driver's License, current
vehicle registration and proof of current auto insurance with
you.
- The
Coordinator will sponsor you on base and you be issued a one-day
Visitor's Pass so that you may proceed to the UNLV-Nellis Office.
- Once
you reach the UNLV-Nellis Office, you will complete a course
registration form and a request form for a Visitor's Pass that
will be valid through the length of your class.
Attending
Class & the Visitor's Pass: The Visitor's Pass allows
civilians to enter the Air Force Base only during
class times and restricts students to visiting the building in
which classes are held. If found anywhere else on the base, at
any other time, the student will be escorted off of the base by
military police. Also, by obtaining the Visitor's Pass, students
are agreeing to adhering to the following terms:
- Please
keep in mind that your access to the base is a privilege and
not a right. Security forces can revoke this privilege at any
time; you are required to follow any instructions and or warnings
they may give you.
- By
accepting the Nellis AFB Visitor Pass, you are giving your consent
to the Air Force to complete a background check.
-
Your access on base is limited to the MPF building (aka Building
20).
-
The speed limit on base is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.
-
You and your car are subject to search at any time.
-
No guests are allowed on base with you.
- Cell phone use while driving is prohibited unless using a hands-free device.
-
You are solely responsible for towing fees, if they should occur.
-
All passes must be returned to your instructor the last time
your class meets. If you fail to do so, you will not be allowed
to return for future classes.
